1. The 100 (4 seasons, 58 episodes) (2014-present)
This series is set 97 years after a nuclear war wiped out almost all life on Earth. The only known survivors are the residents of a space station in Earth’s orbit named “The Ark”. Resources are scarce and ALL crimes are punishable by death. After the Ark’s life support systems start failing, 100 juvenile prisoners are sent to Earth’s surface to see if the Earth is inhabitable again. The 100 prisoners confront dangers of the new world, including themselves, struggle to form a community, and just try to survive. With a fifth season coming in 2018, this series combines drama, mystery, and sci-fi into a great series to binge-watch and enjoy.

2. The Get Down (1 season, 11 episodes) (2016-2017) (Series is separated into 2 parts)
The Get Down is a musical drama series that takes place in the South Bronx region of New York City in the 1970s. This series follows the rise rise of hip-hop and disco through the eyes of a group of teenagers. Set in 1977, Zeke, a young poet, meets Shaolin Fantastic, a graffiti artists and aspiring DJ. They band together with the dream to become successful music artists and take over the city. This show depicts various gangs and gang members of the area and observes the poverty and violence faced by those living in the Bronx. The Get Down is a fun, musical, and realistic story that can be burned-through, but thoroughly enjoyed, in a weekend.

3. The League (7 seasons, 84 episodes) (2009-2015)
This one is for the sports fans. The League is an American sitcom that is set in Chicago, Illinois. This series revolves around a group of friends that are heavily invested in their fantasy football league. The show follows the members and their daily lives. These six friends are very close to each other, but they will do anything to win…anything. They care about the league so deeply that the members will use every opportunity to make each other’s lives miserable. The show also deals with a variety of situations that occur in their daily lives. The League combines comedy and sports into a very entertaining show that also guest stars real NFL players and analysts.

4. The OA (1 season, 8 episodes) (2016-present)
The OA is a mystery drama series centered around a young woman who went missing for seven years. Prairie Johnson returns to her hometown with scars on her back, and can see, despite having been blind when she disappeared. She refuses to tell the FBI and her adoptive parents where she has been and how her eyesight was restored, and instead quickly assembles a team of five high school students, who she reveals that information, also explaining her life story. She asks for their help to save the other missing people who she claims are currently in another dimension. Some residence of the town believe she is a miracle, while others think she could be dangerous.

5. Lady Dynamite (1 season, 12 episodes) (2016-present)
Stand-up comedian/actor Maria Bamford (portrayed by herself) moves back to Los Angeles after spending six months away in recovery for bipolar disorder and attempts to build up her life from scratch with the help of her agent Bruce Ben-Bacharach. Throughout the entire first season, flashbacks are employed to gain an insight on Maria’s backstory and her relationships with her family and friends. Lady Dynamite is a hilarious show and is a fast-paced absurdist gem, all while managing to say something important about mental health.
