This past weekend the boys football team played at (#6) Lawrence Central. After a week one win at Pike, the (#9) North Central football team improved their record to 2-0, doubling their win total from last year.
The Panthers were forced to a three and out on the first drive. Then the defense allowed a 99-yard touchdown drive. After forcing a fumble, the Panthers took possession and tied the game 7-7 after scoring on a 3-yard touchdown run from sophomore Jalen McIntyre. After a botched LC punt on the next possession, the Panthers put together another scoring drive with a 1 yard touchdown run by McIntyre. North Central took the lead into the half, 14-7.
After a quick third quarter score from Lawrence Central the Panthers kept the lead after a missed extra point, 14-13. A 32-yard touchdown pass from Gavin Alexander to Jordan Williams extended the lead 21-13. After two consecutive LC touchdowns, the Panthers were down 27-21 entering the fourth quarter. North Central built their comeback with a late surge with 4:45 left to play, starting with a 12-yard touchdown run from McIntyre, his third of the night. A failed extra point left the game tied 27-all with time running down.
A stingy North Central defense forced another 3-and-out. The Panther’s pieced together a lengthy and methodical drive, behind the duo of Gavin Alexander and Jordan Williams. The drive, and game ended when Gavin found Williams for a 28-yard touchdown pass, which left 1:08 on the clock. After four incompletions from the Lawrence Central Bears, North Central took a knee, upsetting 6th ranked Lawrence Central.
Jalen McIntrye rushed for 107 yards on 18 carries with 3 touchdowns.
