Orchestra teacher joins the team
Elliott Lentz, coming from Warren Central, has taken the place of Craig Ghormley, who had previously been teaching the class for more than 10 years.
Lentz was a student teacher at NC in 2009.
“I wanted to teach here because it is such a unique place with a great performing arts department. I dreamed to have a position here and once there was a position open it was a no-brainer to take it,” Lentz said.
After pursuing other teaching positions throughout Indianapolis, he has come back and is excited to see what this year’s orchestra can do.
“I expect the orchestras to be phenomenal, they have such a rich heritage and tradition with the history behind them,” Lentz said, “I don’t see why they can’t rise and get better; we’ve got some really great kids who are working hard every single day.”
He is really familiar with music.
“I grew up in a very musical family,” Lentz said,“ It’s always kinda been around.” Although he was surrounded by a variety instruments throughout his life, his primary instrument is the Trumpet.
“I can make a sound on pretty much everything, but I’m more specialized in the brass family,” Lentz said.
He loves having the ability to express himself through conducting the various orchestras.
“Conducting gives me the outlet to also perform but not on an instrument…with the ensemble; to be able to make something come to life that’s on a piece of paper,” Lentz said.
A lot of passion comes from Lentz’s past experience in orchestra.
“I had an awesome experience in high school and college that not every student is able to have but I want to show students how music can be so important in life,” Lentz said.
