Last Friday, the Carmel Greyhounds football team traveled to North Central to play the Panthers. Carmel remained undefeated beating the Panthers 56-0. The Greyhounds, ranked second in the Indiana Coaches Poll, have started the season 6-0. Their lowest scoring game this season has been a 42 point effort against Lawrence North last week. Carmel’s defense has only allowed a total of 41 points this season.
Carmel received the ball first and quickly scored on their first possession. A fumbled Panthers return from a Carmel kickoff gave the Greyhounds another quick touchdown, leaving the score 14-0. After allowing two more touchdowns, the Panthers went down 28-0 at the end of the first quarter. The Panther defense allowed just 14 points, compared to the 28 allowed in the first quarter. Behind a strong running game, Carmel led 42-0 at halftime. In the second half the Panther offense was unable to put together a scoring drive. The Panther defense allowed 14 more points during the second half, ending the game at 56-0. This brings the Panthers record down to 2-4, increasing their losing streak to four games.
The Panthers will play home again on this Friday, September 30th. The Panthers will play Terre Haute South. Terre Haute South comes into the game with a 3-3 record. Last week they lost 63-17 to Ben Davis.
