Girls Lacrosse Update

Coming off a rough season last year, the Girls Lacrosse team looked to improve this year. Just like most Spring sports, the ladies were late to hit the field but when they did they hit the ground rolling. They started the season with a big win against a tough Westfield squad. Junior Laura Brett said, “We improved a lot of from last year and it really showed in this game. The team’s really coming together nicely.” The team’s hardest opponent to date is the Zionsville High School Eagles. “We played really well against one of the top contenders for the state trophy,” said Brett. A big theme this year really included rebuilding and improvement from last year. “We got a bunch of good freshmen this year,” said Junior Sofia Veraldi. “It’s been good, we have gotten a lot better already.” The team indeed seems to...

Baseball preview

Baseball season is here, with the first game on April 2 against Hamilton Southeastern. This should be no surprise to the team, however, since the coaches have been scheduling morning workouts since January. The North Central baseball team is looking to improve on last season, in which they finished with a record of 12-14. This year, the Indiana High School Baseball Association ranked the team as fifth in the state in a preseason poll. Coach Phil McIntyre feels that as long as the team stays healthy, they have a serious shot at competing for state. “It was rough last year with all of the injuries. It is hard to improve as a team when you keep losing players and juggling the lineups around.” McIntyre said. Coach McIntyre thinks that this team has a legitimate shot at making a run for the state championship at Victory...

Why do we hate Carmel?

“We hate Carmel.” That was the chosen chant during the 4A sectional basketball tournament, which was held at Carmel High School. North Central senior Andrew Sullivan started the chant and the rest of the student section followed, as well as Hamilton Southeastern’s and Fishers’ student sections. Only a feeling as strong as dislike of Carmel High School could join these three competing schools for a moment in time.   North Central considers Carmel a staunch rival in athletics with one of the strongest programs in the state. With a student population of 4,800, Carmel is the largest high school in the state. Size alone gives Carmel an advantage in athletics by providing a large selection of athletes. The fact that Carmel is one of the wealthiest areas in Indiana only exacerbates this advantage. Student athletes in Carmel have access to both quality competition and quality...

Seniors seek new experience on field

While most seniors begin their fourth and final season, Izzie Miller dares to dabble in the sport of lacrosse for the first time. Miller completed her career as a cross country runner last semester and was looking for a new sport to occupy her time. “I was bored and wanted to stay active. The sport just appealed to me and I found out they needed players, so I went for it,” Miller said.     Miller immediately noted the differences between cross country and lacrosse.     “It is a different experience playing a team sport, it is my first time playing one,” Miller said.     For those unfamiliar with the sport of lacrosse, it is a team game, originally played by the Native Americans, in which a rubber ball is thrown caught and carried with a netted stick. This sport is a definite departure from cross...
