Q&A with Holly Pennington

Reporter Hayley Alder sat down with senior Holly Pennington whose been playing softball for basically her whole life.  Q: How old were you when you started playing softball? A: Really young, like five. Q: What sparked your interest in softball? A: Well, my parents signed me up at first but I really enjoyed playing so I stuck with it. Q: How long have you been a part of the North Central softball team? A: All four years of high school. Q: What is your position? A: I play catcher but this year I might play third base as well. Greyhounds shutout softball team

The softball team took the field against the defending state champs Carmel during a windy afternoon. Although they faced a formidable opponent, the team came out determined. The Panthers managed to hold the Greyhounds to a scoreless first inning. The second inning brought a momentum shift as Carmel scored 5 of its 12 runs. Carmel sophomore Erica Arbuckle held the Panthers scoreless in the six innings she pitched with two strikeouts. The Panthers stranded all four of their baserunners. Carmel added one run in the third and six more in the sixth inning to bring their run total to 12. The final score was 12-0 in favor of Carmel. The Panthers struggled offensively with only two hits in the game. The team’s next game is this weekend as they will compete in the North Central Invitational....

Girls softball lose first home game of season

The girls varsity softball team played their second game of the 2012 season and first home game on Thursday, March 22 against Franklin Central. The Panthers were defeated by the Flashes 7-1. The Flashes took the lead early after scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. The Panthers were unable to recover as they eventually fell behind 6-0 midway through the fourth inning. Although Shelby Kinder scored NC’s run of the season during the bottom half of the fourth inning the momentary spark was not enough. NC was unable to score any more runs in the fourth inning or the rest of the game. Taylor McGill lead the Panthers by reaching base three times.
