My life as.. an athlete

Caroline McAuley’s first word wasn’t tennis nor was it racket or even court but it wouldn’t be a far stretch to say that McAuley has been influenced by tennis since she was in diapers. Between her brothers, Patrick and Brian, both participants of the sport, and her many cousins, McAuley is quite literally surrounded by tennis. The young tennis star cites her mom as being a major part of her career. “My mom was a big influence because she grew up playing junior tennis and wanted my brothers and I to learn how to play,” McAuley said. Frazier does it again

Frazier Does It Again For the second time in one week, the boys tennis team was up against the odds. Twice, they had found themselves at an early disadvantage to their bitter rivals, Carmel. Frazier won the deciding match a three-set thriller, defeating Makio once again...

The teams played in poor conditions with the temperature being 49 degrees with wind gusts around 17 mph. The movement of the tennis ball was disrupted by the weather. The wind especially threw off the timing on shots for NC. Despite the weather, the team fought and was victorious.  All three singles positions won, which were played by seniors Drew Hurt, Ashley Menner and Chelsea Carter. Menner won her match (6-4), (6-4). Menner left the court feeling positive. “We played well for our first match, but still need to work on lots of aspects of our game. I think the team is in a good place mentally,” Menner said. However, both doubles teams lost. Amy Smikle and Cassie Davis played the number one doubles match-up while Marie Schloneger paired with Kit Sommers to play the...
