Will Loggan and Chayce Rowe sat down with Varsity Baseball Coach, Phil McIntyre
Q: How many years have you been coaching?
A: 27 years, 4 years at Marian College, 1 year at IUPUI, 1 year at Boone Grove High School,
9 years at Brownsburg, 12 years at North Central High School
Q: How will this years team look?
A: We should be very solid offensively and defensively. We graduated a very good senior class that was dominant on the pitcher’s mound but we have the majority of our offense and defense back. We have a number of young pitchers that are ready to step up to the plate and compete at the Varsity level.
Q: Who are going to be the biggest leaders on this year’s team?
A: I have been very happy with our senior leadership this off season with Blake Juerling, Travis Finchum and Cooper Ochs leading the way in having our players engaged in their workouts. We have two very strong seniors in Roy Thurman and Allbry Major that should lead our team offensively and defensively. Allbry will also be a huge asset for us on the mound. Juniors Mark Cummings, Sam Behrmann, Nick Elmendorf, Sammy Lee, Felix Valero, Jacob Snider, Jordan Lee, Quintin Kirch and Sophomore Max Kercheval and Liam Thompson all have Varsity experience from last year’s team and should unify this team in all aspects of the game. ( especially on the mound and on defense. )
Q: Who are some of your favorite past players who you coached?
A: I love all my players that I have had in the past. They have made me the coach I am today and each one of them share a special place in my heart.
Q: Who is your projected ace pitcher?
A: We actually do not have a true ace yet on our team and that is fine by me. We have a lot of guys that want the ball on the mound to compete. I’m sure throughout our competition with each other there will be some guys that will rise up for us to have more then one ace on our team!
Q: How long has your staff been together?
A: Coach King has been with me all 12 years, Coach Webb has been with me 6 years, Coach Cunningham has been with me 4 years, Coach Cluver has been with me 3 years, Coach Hoffman has been with me 2 years, Coach Garlock has been with me 2 years, Coach Birch has been with me 1 year.
Q: Who will be your best competition this year?
A: Our schedule is very good this year with competition. We will be playing 3 premier teams in the midwest when we travel to Louisville early this Spring in the PBR Prep Baseball Tournament.Carmel and Center Grove will be very good teams we will face in the MIC. Defending State Champs Roncallli will be a very good test in County this year as we try to go Back to Back in Winning the Marion County Championship. Our Sectional is the toughest in the State as we could face Carmel, Westfield, HSE, Fishers or Noblesville.
